Julio Amaro-Vasquez, who lives on Bergen Boulevard just off Oakdene Avenue, was charged with attempted murder, attempted aggravated sexual assault, aggravated assault, attempted sexual assault by contact and child endangerment.
He wasn't the only person arrested in connection with the alleged incident, however.
Amaro-Vasquez's girlfriend, Marlin Cervantes Santos, 30, of Fairview, “directed two children to provide false information to police,” Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said on Tuesday, June 11.
Amaro-Vasquez remained held Tuesday in the Bergen County Jail. There's no likelihood he'll be released before a trial or plea bargain based on the severity of the charges.
Cervantes-Santos, who was charged with two counts of child endangerment, will also remain held.
It turns out she's a Guatemalan national who may be living in the country illegally.
ICE filed a detainer that holds Cervantes-Santos at the jail until they can bring her before a federal immigration judge in Newark who will officially make that determination.
The victim was treated at Hackensack University Medical Center.
